Decennial Anniversary at Vineland Station

More than forty enthusiastic nut growers turned out to celebrate the tenth Anniversary of SONG at the Fall meeting, October 16, 1982 at Vineland Station, Ontario. There were numerous growers who had quite a bit to crow about too. In fact there were more members with samples to show than we have seen before in the 10 year history of SONG. Many of the samples were from Heartnut trees which resulted from the Heartnut Seed Distribution program of approximately 8 years ago. It is most gratifying to see these trees come into bearing and have the growers experience results in what is otherwise a relatively short time in terms of the common wisdom of getting results from growing trees.

Numerous members enjoyed the side trips to the local growers such as Horace Troup, Bill and Bob Hambleton, Ernest Grimo and Doug Campbell. It was obvious that considerable progress has been made in Ontario in the last 10 years in the numerous areas of nut growing. It will be our next milestone of achievement when numerous of our members can report making significant commercial sales from the production of their nut trees. Let's work together to realize this goal before our next decennial event.
